The Separation Party of Alberta is forging ahead & is working to get enough signatures to become a political party. The Western Independence Party of Saskatchewan has got its signatures & is now an official party in the province of SK. but no matter what happens with these two parties, separation of both or either province from this socialistic dictatorship called canada is going to take a considerable amount of time. What we need now is a step in the independence direction & that is the removal of the RCMP from these two provinces. This idea is also in the fore front of the provincal "fire wall" movement that is embraced by the ARL, the Byfields, & even Stephan Harper, & elected senator in waiting Ted Morton. What we need to do right now, & please write in if anyone has a better idea, or an addition to this idea, & that is to start petitions all across Alberta & Saskatchewan stating that the citizens of these provinces believe that the removal of the RCMP & the replacement of this federal controlled force with a provincial force that is totally accountable to the citizens of the said provinces would be in the best interests of these provinces & the people who live & work in these provinces. The provinces right now are paying nothing but lip service about not enforcing C-68. They can get away with this because they really aren't lying but they are allowing the federal police force "RCMP" & the federal prosecuters to hassel & terrorize law-abiding gun owners. Also as you can see with what is happening to Mr. Hudson, they are getting away with stealing peoples property but not charging them under the bill, & of course this means people can't even fight this unjust & illegal bill in court where it would for sure be overturned & exposed as the nazi like gun grab that it is. The RCMP are nothing but the brainwashed brownshirts of the federal liberals & the longer this bullshit goes on the more intrusive & nazi like they are going to get. I urge all freedom loving people in these two provinces to get petitions going throughout your communities & constituencies & also phone, write, fax your MLA's & MP's to get this ball rolling. We need to remove this gestapo like force as soon as possible!

I'm not sure of the exact details of how the force came into being. I do know that because of the whiskey trading & other activities that were going on in the west during the 1870's the federal government of the Dominion of Canada decided to create a force to clean-up the west, "so to speak" The real reason behind it was more political than anything. The government of canada had not exploited the resources or the land of the west yet & they were afraid that with more & more american involvement in illegal & legal trading, business, & other economic activities, this would threaten ottawa's hold on the west, basically Ottawa had to reclaim the western territory for itself & start getting settlers out here so that the east would have its cheap food policy & a base of people to support the eastern industrial base, the reason for the North West Mounted Police.
Its true that every province has the right to oust the RCMP & instead have its own provincial police force. Ontario & Quebec have their own forces, & in the past both Alberta & Saskatchewan had theirs. The problem with the RCMP today, the way I see it, is that basically the province pays for the force to police the province, for instance an RCMP officer in Alberta is having his paycheck paid to him by provincial money's which of course is there due to the Alberta tax payer, but even so, that officer still has to take his orders from the feds, because afterall he is a member of a paramilitary federal police force.
If a province really wants to have more independence from ottawa, weather its in the form of all out seperation or just the firewall concept, a necessary starting point is getting rid of all federal authority, & of course that includes the RCMP. As long as they are controlled by ottawa the RCMP serves no useful purpose to any freedom loving, tax paying citizen in western canada.
Alberta needs there own provincial police force, a police force run by Albertans for Albertans. The same goes for Saskatchewan(if the ndp ever get kicked out) & British Columbia.
Well, I rambled on enough, hopefully some of what I wrote makes sense.

Maverick: I'm not sure this would be helful in the least but....how did the RCMP come into being and what/where does it derive its authority from?

I know that when Canada federalized the provinces agreed to have some services "federal" so that there would be efficiency. For example, the post office...better to have one than 10. Also the Armed Forces...better to contribute to one than 10...my question is...how did the RCMP come about? The provinces technically still have autonomy and can get out of the federation at any time...so they must be agreeing to the force of the RCMP. Would it be helpful to you to trace this back and then attack the actual bill/legislation etc. that allows the RCMP to have provincial force? (I.E. Do you need to go back to the Governor General?)

I'm not sure if I'm being clear enough here....
