Bruce Montague update - Wednesday, March 14, 2007 As I write this we are sitting in court during a recess. It's been a busy week so far dealing with the crown's objections in accepting our expert witnesses Prof. Mauser and Dave Tomlinson. We expect today that this issue will be finalized. That means that tomorrow we should be able to finally start into our actual arguments. |

Overall suicide rate unchanged - Wednesday, March 14, 2007 Between 1991 and 1999, the number of people shooting themselves decreased by 303 while the number of people hanging themselves increased by 721. On the surface, there seems to be a substitution effect from firearms related suicide to hanging. However, there is insufficient information to draw this conclusion. We cannot clearly state that there is a substitution effect between the two, because the causes of suicide find roots in changing and complex social, economic and personal situations which may or may not effect the method of suicide. |

In fact, in an excerpt the ADQ handed reporters, Charest is quoted as saying in 1997 that gun control "is an emotional issue in Quebec" and the shooting is a "very tragic incident," but then calling for an end to the "costly, bureaucratic (gun) registry." |

Shocking release of data - Friday, March 09, 2007 I write on behalf of the Regina Fish and Game League and its 700-plus members to express our grave concern over the recent data release from the federal gun registry to the Ottawa Citizen. Ever since the registry was enacted, law-abiding gun owners have complied in registering their firearms with the understanding this sensitive information was to be protected from unauthorized use/access. If past rumours are to be believed, hackers have already compromised the gun registry. |
