The cons could put the whole C-68 issue to the Canadian electorate in the form of a referendum next election. Let the people speak!

I tend to agree with bgh.....the cons had an window of opportunity to deal with the gun legislation when they were first elected and chose not to. Now Day is saying a different story since the days of election promises.......reality is, if you add up all the "shoulda, coulda, woulda" avenues the conservatives have had and continue to have since being elected, it doesn't take long to realize, responsible firearms owners aren't a conservative priority, OR true to political stripes in Canada, Harper is prostrating himself which ever way will win him votes.
A majority govt of any colour isn't what Canadians need....time and time again, majority govts tend to ram what ever their particular agenda is with no respect for what Canadians real want. Harper has shown himself to be no different and although he has some good policies, there are some that are way off track for my liking to support, if they ever got in with a majority.
If a majority govt is needed as a club to get legislation passed, you can be sure our elected mp's will be told which way to vote and there goes any sort of elected democracy

you have made valid points bgh-but any legislation rescinded by OIC can be re-instated and liberals being what they are would spend billions to undue what the conservatives could concevable do,and out of spite ban pretty much everything other than single shots or bouble barrels.Yeah you can destroy the whole sorry affair by cut backs and oic but u can,t kill it,and that was their promise

well prairiedog, you ask what i would do. well for starters i would use the liberals own underhanded strategy against them. how? by order in council! it was set up by rock so changes to the legislation could be made without parliamentary approval. such as banning certain types of guns, licence fees etc. etc. quite simply the cons could unban these same types of guns. they could erase the files at miramichi, cut funding. if they cant eliminate it who you gonna vote for? entirely, lets see how cfc can operate on a hundred bucks a year. in short the cons could screw up the registery so badly no other party could straighten it out again. and it would all be done using the liberals own weapon against them. at least they would be doing something instead of waiting for that magical day when the get a majority. who we gonna vote for? buddy, there aint one politician worth voting for.

PD and Prairiedog you guys are totally correct, now is not the time to demand something idiotic and which will only cause a big rift in support, lets do it once and do it right.
We are all frustrated but please help the brave Montague out, and remember if worst comes to worst the CPC can tweak with an OIC.
Also the Senate is LIBERAL dominated so one must play his cards right, or wait for a benevolent change.

We're in a tight situation right now.I plan to keep putting pressure on the CPC to scrap C-68,or better, give gun legislation back to the provinces.Sure,I'll vote for them next election, but if they screw up again,I suppose I'll have to look at other options.

alright bgh, who you gonna vote for then? or you gonna sit back and let all the liberals vote instead? or perhaps you have an idea that would actually work? any bill the cons put forward right now is just gonna get shot down by the opposition.. so whats the point? just what little magical thing is it you expect the minority conservatives to do just right now? i would tend to agree with the naysayers if i actually saw a way for them to do what we want.. but right now.. i just don't see that they can do anything without the united opposition trumping it... harper can't just declare the law void.. canada only works that way for majority governments. if i were harper, i would be looking for a way to quietly keep my goals in sight, while searching for a way to aquire more voter support for next election..it just happens to be that nearly all progun ppl are already on board, so he needs to lure a few antigunners to get the majority we need to outright scrap the bad law.. thats the tricky side of politics.. what planet do you hail from where theres a simple solution? ifyou have one, email it to day.. im sure he could use it right now

The Yukon Territories is only ONE of TWO areas the Fed's can mess with. The word "include" actual definition and legal useage is: "to include is to EXCLUDE all others". In other words, if you say, "that basket INCLUDES apples", that means the basket ONLY holds apples. That is how the government deceives you, they use words.

prairiedog...what dream world do you live in anyway. maybe just maybe things are exactly as they appear and gun owners have taken a royal pucking by the cons. we have been waitin for years for this mess to fall by the wayside and it hasnt. meanwhile, the registery is still here, wendy is still getting funding and we are still patiently waiting for better times. guess what, they aint coming. the cons are getting less popular daily and will never form a majority as long as harper and day the dummy are running the show.

You are probably right prariedog. Parliament is like a minefield for the Conservatives right now.

Yukon doesn't have the same rights as other provinces have with Attorney General status. All their laws are basically federal laws. Unlike provinces that have the provincial laws. So if someone goes to court there, its all federal. Still, Yukon should be calling the shots.

the other thing to do, is buy as much time as possible after that last quebec shcool shooting so its not fresh in the minds of all the communist ballistophobes out there lobbying for rediculous laws. the more time that passes the better balanced the new laws will be...we need to remain determined, and steadfast in our resolve, and to keep the pressure on them to reach our goals, but we also need some patience... sometimes its best to wait and see, before jumping overboard in haste... six days till bruce starts our fight.. send him some money, and support, and we'll keep the pressure on.

im a gambling man. ill wager day and the rest of the cpc are simply watering down their verbal gun stance comments as to not spook the anti-gun votes away...ill even go so far as to wager that should they pull a majority out of their hats next election, you'll see the hard-ass line redrawn in the sand, and a lot more will happen in our favour than has been publically promised...think about it, if there are any gun owners in politics, they were reform, then alliance, and now conservative.. theyre still there, still as irritated as the rest of us, but playing the political game the way they have to.. did you really expect all that much when we won such a tedious minority? to be honest with you, my personal guess, is that 1, the conservatives are best to promise the anti-gun lobby the world -since who else are we gonna vote for? ndp?green?lieberal? not friggin likely- and then hope that bruce montague's court case winds up striking the whole law down.. if that happens, all they have to do is not appeal it, and then they can turn around and tell the voters theyre trying to get that they actually do support gun control to some degree, and will come up with some balanced tough alternative after next election and then do nothing, restroe pre-c68 laws, or outright ask us what to do. 2, if bruce's bid completely fails, he has a federal appeal for another kick at the cat and that may be worth waiting for. 3, they can push some watered down legislation through, cut funding, or buy time to haggle. or 4, the best option for us all right now, is to do nothing until after next election, giving the courts time to deliver the right verdict or to make sure no half assed laws that don't go far enough in our favour are passed and writen in stone.. because once this issue is dealt with, you can bet the cons and most other parties will want to bury this can of worms for a long time. best to do it right before its burried.

How about Day providing the LIEBRALS with a list of all names OF THOSE WHO WERE STUPID ENOUGH TO LICENSE (retaining them in Miramichi) for FUTURE CONFISCATION or for criminals to hack and obtain nice shopping lists. GUARANTEED CONFISCATION COMING WITHIN 3 YEARS!! BET ON IT! LYING TURNCOAT sob!

Let's hope they tell the feds where to go on their gun confiscation program. Yukoners need their firearms, just as our forefathers needed that essential tool. We had better get off of our butts and let the CPC know where they stand in the next election with HONEST people.
