Posted on: Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 09:03 well, here is an update, had court on friday and lost the voir dire - it is amazing how much power is given to people who know so little about a subject. The crown seemed stuck like a broken record on the term'hair trigger' and I explained that a gun with no magazine in it is not loaded but he insisted it was...don't know what that was all about. My lawyer made his argument about the many charter of rights violations- like no rights to counsel-rcmp went warrant shopping, if they didn't get what they wanted they would go to another jp, surrounding my house just on hearsay - other mistakes like they said they saw no alarms, but my place has alarms and cameras The severe beating which will require a few surgeries was ignored - I had broken no law but they didn't investigate instead just surrounded my house. The crown said 'you were a cop, what would you do if someone like you was barricaded in a house' if that isnt discrimination and profiling then I don't know what is seems pretty hopeless I don't know what is to be gained by busting a guy who collects replica historical firearms. There is an 'in use' clause in the criminal code that says if you are directly supervising your firearm then it is 'in use', pointless because they told me if they lose then they will just charge my wife which country am I in? how can they get away with beating the living S out of a crippled combat veteran? I can only stand up for about ten minutes at a time, the pain is too great. Going to a medical appointment is sheer agony. hell I don't know what to do anymore, it is pretty discouraging Comments by Old Hunter from British Columbia - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 21:08 After 60 years of hunting , I am now 78 , I would like to buy a 22 cal rifle for upland birds . What kind of hoops do I have to jump through to be able to legaly obtain one . The long gun laws were not to much help in stopping all the killing that has appeaed in the last 20 years, what is the solution I personally think there should be no registering of long guns and we should go back to the way it was when I started hunting. Comments by steve from Canada - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 20:03 well, trial is over now, I had to justify in court just about every possession I own and they confiscated, from replica swords to non firing replica muskets and they photographed my books... it was like 1984 I guess they liked clauswitz's book 'on war' which he wrote while working as an executive to napoleon it is scary when police photograph books - I never did, and I executed a hundred search warrants, one guy had quite an altar to satan but he has freedom of religion so we respected his right crown painted me like the unibomber, I never heard such insinuations, oblique comments and double entendres since the trudeau administration judge says he will deliver a verdict in february I have..or should I say 'had' an old battlefield relic CZ that says 'made in yugoslavia' which makes it a museum relic because yugoslavia no longer exists - it was cheaply made from an overrun factory, the slide stop is made of bakelite and other moveable parts are made of toy plastic.. when you cocked it - the barrel would point straight up, so I never fired it, I was afraid it would explode in my hand I never registered it either, it was a piece of junk - the crown acted like it was a weapon of mass destruction I hold both licenses, restricted and long gun and that is the only one I never registered, if anyone stole it and used it in a crime probably would be called 'lefty' after it blew his hand off, my intention was to find it a home in a museum - if I wanted to I could have easily registered it being a soldier and a military policeman for twenty plus years, I have an interest in military history, so the guns I own (mostly black powder) changed the way war was fought, it is one thing to read such but it is quite another to fire a baker rifle on the range, or a cavalry pistol it is quite a learning experience I carried a gun just about every day during my career and we had a saying - how many gun calls have you gone to? and the rookie would say uhh none? and we would point at the pistol on his side and say 'every call you go to is a gun call' and show them the video of a reenactment of surveillance in a prison where one crook was showing people how to take a gun from a cop in mere seconds and kill him with it and another video called 'surviving edged weapons' which showed a knife artist could kill a policeman from over twenty five feet away, the policeman would start to draw and the guy would be on him in a second and cut every major ligament so the policeman wouldn't even be able to hold on to his gun .. scary stuff where I live has just been invaded by hybridized wolves, they are called red wolves but I am not sure if that is the correct name - they killed a promising young singer not long ago - I haven't seen a cat out on the street since their arrival - and went to my friends house and his dog was surrounded by about ten of them - I blew the horn and yelled and ran at them with my car - they were barely intimidated, just backed off into the woods and watched me I guess I'll have to see if a paintball gun or maybe harsh language will drive them away the media insists on calling them 'coyotes' but according to national geographic they are 'hybridized wolves' and nicknamed them 'red wolves' a bear ate my garbage can - now that would be a good excuse for a kid... sorry teacher a bear ate my homework, and my little sister there are a lot of elderly people here and the pillheads know it, they break into houses and hurt the old folks, looking for vicodin (hillbilly heroin) you knock down an elderly person and they break bones and basically their lives are over, painful surgeries, long recoveries has killed quite a few people while the courts just hear that the crook was scared and pushed the eighty year old down so he could get away...after the old person dies, they are never charged with causing the death I mean c'mon folks, we live in a country where a guy ate a kid on a bus!!! sawed the kids head off and the cops wouldnt even go into the bus, they tackled the nut and found body parts on him wrapped up like a school lunch everyone thinks canada is this happy go lucky smiling naive country where everyone loves nature and we all sing kum bay ya meanwhile triad gangs shoot it out on edmonton's streets with full auto machine guns what will we do use restraining orders? maybe if they printed the restraining order on kevlar rated IIIA with a trauma plate oh well, I'm just being an old windbag again, forgive me for bending your ear, I'll let you know what the verdict is - I don't have much hope but I fought for my rights, got beaten and badly injured I am in line for several surgeries wiped out my life savings so even if I win I lose thats how canada keeps guns out of hands, cops say just lay charges and the lawyers fees will outstrip any fine that the judge would lay so we (the police) win even if we lose nice huh Comments by steve from Canada - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 01:37 hello my name is Stephen Druken former cpl my career was as clean as a whistle - I still get the occasional email telling me they miss me because of the large number of jokes I could tell I was in the military almost twenty years when an overseas injury put me on the sidelines I collect muskets - according to the criminal code, muskets aren't considered firearms, anything even replicas before 1898 are not considered firearms I was cleaning mine in my living room next thing I knew I was surrounded by RCMP swat I surrendered peacefully but they beat the hell out of me - 5 damaged spinal disks - brain damage - sense disorder mostly and amnesia damaged achilles tendon from having it hyperflexed against the way it is supposed to go knee damage to the cartilage, constantly gives out four cracked teeth arrested and thrown in the psych ward, both Drs there gave me a clean bill of health mentally - rcmp tore apart my home and took things like a childs bow and arrow set?? they took pictures of my books? like 1984 - you wont find das kapital or mein kampf on my shelves - maybe some stephen king when I refused a ridiculous offer from the crown - I turned it down and they promptly made up some charge and charged my wife!!!!! unethical and damn well illegal - they also went warrant shopping, if they didn't get what they wanted from one justice of the peace they went to another one - unethical and illegal I am in constant pain, I think I am headed for a wheelchair because I cannot stand up more than a minute the smash to the head makes me dizzy and I vomit usually when I have a migraine with it nobody wants to drop the charges and lose face - these people are from a different era down here in nova scotia I lost my life savings defending myself I am not looking for money just a moment of your time please help and call Provincial Court Crown Attorneys' Office 15 Kennedy Street, Suite 202 Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia B9A 2Y1 Tel: (902) 625-2294 Fax: (902) 625-3060 Chief Crown Attorney's Office 3rd Floor, Commerce Tower 15 Dorchester Street Sydney, Nova Scotia B1P 5Y9 Tel: (902) 563-3530 Fax: (902) 563-0506 tell them how you feel about RCMP beating up disabled veterans I take an oath I did nothing illegal but I am so alone here, nobody will help me because they think I am one of those vietnam vets who had machine guns in popular culture, movies and such why are they so afraid of us? Comments by Trucker from Alberta - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 22:20 Wild Rose Alliance is fielding three senator candidates for the Federal Senate on next Monday's provincial vote. Albertans will have the chance to also vote those fellows to the senate. Remember, Alberta is the only province so far to insist on voting in its senators. This gives the party a foot in the door to run as a federal party in the future. If they prove reasonably good to Alberta, chances are good that the ROC of Canada will give the WRA a favorable look as a potential federal candidate. Comments by Trucker from Alberta - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 20:05 Yes , property rights enshrined, a certainty with a WRA party win on Monday. It would be very nice to know this prov gumment was standing up to the fed gum's already demonstrated desire to steal our firearms. And standing up fully for the hard working taxpayers of this prov. The gun owning population of Alberta would quickly EXPAND. A good thing . Comments by pd from Alberta - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Thursday, April 19, 2012 at 16:16 property rights in itself is worth it. u gotta think, all the ppl who refused to lisence and register.. their guns -property- was suddenly in danger of being 'confiscated'.. without compensation thats called 'theft'. if we had property rights federally or provincially enshrined, not a a single gun could have been taken without paying fair market value for each one. that cost alone would have made c-68 unworkable and too expensive . it would have died as an idea before even being presented. without property rights enshrined however... Everyone I speak to in Hellifax despises Mr. Harper because he will actually force them to get real jobs instead of sitting around on their asses. Every eastern province is flat broke and governments would rather continue getting more $$$ from Ottawa instead of utilizing the resources we have here and looking at creative ways of creating good-paying, long - term jobs. Boat operator licences are not in the criminal code, why should firearms be? In fact boats themselves are required to be registered and have been for over a hundred years, but it's not a crime to own or drive a boat as it is to own a firearm. If you don't have a boat operator licence or a boat registered the worst is you get a fine, similar to getting a parking ticket. You don't end up in jail. Us firearm types should be treated, at worst, the same as boaters. If I can carry a 30-06 or a 300 win, these arms surpass any handgun in power by a large margin. At the very least, wheel guns (revolvers) should be unrestricted, and useful for hunting, up close on bear attack, or popping grouse! If you have, adrivers license, and a hunting license, for christ sake, WHy isnt that enough? the gubmint can access hunting license holders, if they wanna know whose got guns? for that matter, a hunting license should be good enuff to buy a rifle or shotgun. simple as a pimple on my nuts. Comments by Dave P from British Columbia - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 11:07 My choice of the first thing to accomplish is to get the whole firearm issue out of the Criminal Code. If the goal of the government is to know who has a firearm, it doesn't need to be in the Code. The legality of whether the Feds have the right to keep a national non criminal database, I'll leave to the legal beagles to sort out. Getting the licence, FAC, whatever it becomes into the non criminal area will also stop the other travesties we now endure such as warrantless searches. Comments by pd from Alberta - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 10:19 ive thought similar things as well dan. a holtered pistol is a lot less cumbersome as well. less likely to get snagged or dropped. as for bear spray, if i am ever close enough to a charging bear at the effective spray range, i think i would ruin my shorts. the report of a pistol shot may deter him before it gets to that point for sure. Comments by Dan from Quebec - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 06:08 I would definitely like to have a change towards handgun laws. Not letting us carry one wile hunting I find that outrageous. We all know here that a handgun is a perfect tool to have especially as a back up. Even for the sake of survival. I would feel a lot more safer with a handgun strap on me when I go on a fishing or hunting trips. Anything can happen when you are surrounded by hundreds of kilometers wildlife. We should even have the right to carry wile hiking in any forested area. Last time I was in Cranbrook, B.C for a visit. I came across a grizzly in a national park, thank god we had bear spray. ....But imagine if it was a windy day....would I still be here!? Comments by prariedog from Alberta - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Monday, April 16, 2012 at 23:50 gentlemen, we have achieved a victory here.. albeit one that can be quickly undone if the wrong government gets into power again. I think now with this first victory, we should now decide upon 1 common next step and push for it.lufa is 'law abiding unregistered firearms association'. perhaps we could rebrand as 'law abiding unlisenced firearm association'. although i think pushing for an end to licensing right away and openly will be politically difficult. perhaps we could debate and decide upon a next step that is achievable... for example property rights, or lobby the government to abolish the 'order in council' provisions. or to uninhibit handgun hunting etc.. i think if we go after licensing right away it will hand political ammunition to our opponents and we will not only lose, but wind up undoing the progress we have made. i myself would lean towards a long term plan of steadily chipping away until we could eventually have a second ammendment for ourselves. removing any authority the rcmp has to classify guns would be a good start, pushing for any activity that normalizes using guns in any way -hand gun hunting would immediately open the door to non violent justification to own handguns publically-, or to first nudge the pal license back to a 'permit' status first before pushing for abolishing it etc. we could push for these things without causing a huge PR problem. many ppl who are anti gun, would freak if we suggested abolishing licenses, but many of them would fail to understand the difference if we reclassified the pal as a permit instead. likewise, every now and then dump a restricted model into the non restricted model. eventually, push for 1 handgun model to be made non restricted. even a small one would be a huge step. a .22 could be argued at 'low power' or the like. or lobby for a special 'safety' course that would allow new shooters to gain 'prohib' permits.. etc. we need to keep moving forward steadily.. but we need to do it like approaching a white tail.. if we just run all out crashing through the bush at them, they get spooked and we lose. if we do it slow, patiently, quietly and steadily... we get that 20 pointer! any ideas on an easy smart first step we could all agree upon? Comments by Mark from British Columbia - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Monday, April 16, 2012 at 21:38 I think it was 16 people who were murdered in Vernon G.F. Anyways, I am so glad to see this announcement. But I still find it hard to believe it is true. I have a bit of an anxiety attack every time I read about it because it was such an onerous and punitive measure and the psychological scars from it run deep.Gun owners were essentially under siege and were considered criminals. I feel a big relief knowing now that the lists of firearms are not in the hands of every Tom, Dick and Harry to peruse through too. I would not want lists of any of my valuables out in the ether where anyone can see them, no matter how secure it is alleged to be. Comments by GUN FREAK from British Columbia - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Monday, April 16, 2012 at 16:33 one of the reasons they used to justify the FAC system, some raghead offed his ex-wife, her fiancee, and 4 members of the wedding party, then himself, in Vernon.B.C. The FAC system was just as ineffective at stopping this sort of crime, it was just as C-68, KNEEJERK, "FEEL-GOOD" policy. The shooter had REGISTERED his RESTRICTED gun, had jumped thru the hoops of the day, even though he had peace bonds against him, some dumb cop rubber-stamped this guys purchase, posession, and subsequent undoing. No accountability to said "dumb cop"...going after everyone who DID NOT BREAK ANY LAWS DID NOT WORK IN 1977 EITHER. I am in no hurry to compromise my freedom, I care NOT for a new tyrant intent on dictating what I may-or may-not do. Mr. Freedom Fighter, I sincerely hope that sanity and freedom will prevail. I DID walk into crappy tire and buy guns in the day, and I sincerelt hope that you can one day soon, as well, no questions asked, (no anarchy implied or intended). when i was 14, i use to walk down "main st" Cawston B.C. with my .22 over my shoulder. no swat team was called, no shots were fired, excepting in safe direction, after exiting a starling. (they raise hell with the fruit in the orchards there, and some farmers even paid .25 per pair of starling legs! those birds would peck every cherry on the tree, for some reason, they were not content to just eat a few cherries and fill up, the cumulative damage was dramatic.) Comments by Gunsmoke. from British Columbia - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Monday, April 16, 2012 at 10:51 Having to have a license to do something, means you need permission to do it. We never needed permission to own firearms for the first 150 years of Canada. Why the change? The FAC was a first step to what we have now. Everyone hated the FAC at the time, now it looks like a mere bump, compared to the hill we need to climb now to legally own firearms. But the FAC was an outrage at the time ,having to register at a police station to own what Canadians had owned free and clear since Canada began. What did the FAC do to stop gun crime?.Anything? They said at the time to help justify the FAC that Bikers were legally packing shotguns on their motorcycles, and were a threat to public safety. [Note; Governments gain more control over their citizens by claiming something is a public safety issue]. Comments by freedom fighter from Canada - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Monday, April 16, 2012 at 06:02 I agree GF. When my dad was a teen, back in the 60s, any tom, dick or harry could walk into Canadian Tire, Woolworths or Eatons and purchase a long gun - no registration, licensing and guess what - the streets weren't awash in blood! No sir, the problems we're experiencing today have nothing to do with an inanimate object. A lax criminal justice system, no morals being taught at home or in society, lack of child discipline, I could go on. Comments by Dave P from British Columbia - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 18:54 To get back to the FAC days the act of owning a firearm would have to be decriminalized. In the FAC period it was not a crime to own a firearm. Note I didn't say weapon. A weapon is a thing has caused pain and suffering. A firearm is just a thing. Anyhow, the hurdle of the FAC was relatively easy to get over, and you disappeared into the fog. You actually had to do something bad to get back on the radar scope of the "System". Comments by Trucker from Alberta - (Report Post - RP) Posted on: Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 18:45 Problem with prohibited is the feds like to prohibit calibers. For example they have prohibited .32 and .25 caliber handguns for no reason at all that they have ever given. They also recently prohibited "scary" looking semi-automatic .22 rifles AFTER they were registered AND licensed. They have even prohibited the sale of BB guns in novelty shops on the grounds that the BB guns were actually deadly weapons in disguise ! So i say get rid of the prohibited classification all together.
