gentlemen, we have achieved a victory here.. albeit one that can be quickly undone if the wrong government gets into power again. I think now with this first victory, we should now decide upon 1 common next step and push for it.lufa is 'law abiding unregistered firearms association'. perhaps we could rebrand as 'law abiding unlisenced firearm association'. although i think pushing for an end to licensing right away and openly will be politically difficult. perhaps we could debate and decide upon a next step that is achievable... for example property rights, or lobby the government to abolish the 'order in council' provisions. or to uninhibit handgun hunting etc.. i think if we go after licensing right away it will hand political ammunition to our opponents and we will not only lose, but wind up undoing the progress we have made. i myself would lean towards a long term plan of steadily chipping away until we could eventually have a second ammendment for ourselves. removing any authority the rcmp has to classify guns would be a good start, pushing for any activity that normalizes using guns in any way -hand gun hunting would immediately open the door to non violent justification to own handguns publically-, or to first nudge the pal license back to a 'permit' status first before pushing for abolishing it etc. we could push for these things without causing a huge PR problem. many ppl who are anti gun, would freak if we suggested abolishing licenses, but many of them would fail to understand the difference if we reclassified the pal as a permit instead. likewise, every now and then dump a restricted model into the non restricted model. eventually, push for 1 handgun model to be made non restricted. even a small one would be a huge step. a .22 could be argued at 'low power' or the like. or lobby for a special 'safety' course that would allow new shooters to gain 'prohib' permits.. etc. we need to keep moving forward steadily.. but we need to do it like approaching a white tail.. if we just run all out crashing through the bush at them, they get spooked and we lose. if we do it slow, patiently, quietly and steadily... we get that 20 pointer! any ideas on an easy smart first step we could all agree upon?
